Freedom vs Facebook

Tuesday, May 17th 2022

Social networks have been an important part of our lives for more than a decade. The most well-known is Facebook, which recently acquired a subsidiary, Instagram. It seems everyone uses this product, and I'm not against it, because it's about people's freedom of will.

I have an account with both, but barely use them for a single simple reason. Facebook products are closed communities, isolated from the global network. It is impossible to read or watch anything from their products if you don't have an account. I am convinced that freedom of speech and, more importantly, getting access to information is one of the foundation stones of the Internet. So I don't pay for Facebook products based on my time and content.

By contrast, Twitter and Reddit are incredible sites and social networks for another simple reason; both sites are open to everyone who has access to the web. You can freely read anything without registering. As a result, very different people create completely different and useful content. And freedom will win.
